We've long said that the best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Anyone with any amount of common sense can see that this is the best way to save lives. Taking it a step further, this theory takes place a lot more often than many people on the left think it does.
Case in point, last June an article was published on the Controversial Times website, illustrating just 12 of those instances. I think it would be helpful for you to read them, if you haven't already. I don't have enough space here to talk about all 12 of these incidents where a good guy stopped a mass shooting. But, I do want to talk about two of them in the name of education.

Before we get there, however, I want to take a second to point out what at least half of these shootings have in common: At least six of them occurred in an area where a gun was illegal. For example, many of them were in schools or a school function. I saw one that took place in New York, a state where it is hard to get a firearm for self-defense.

What's the point? Psychos go to schools to kill people because they know that the police are several minutes away. They can do their damage before the police are even halfway to the scene. And then, even when they arrive, most times they cannot move in right away, depending upon the situation.

Let's dive into this. The first incident I want to discuss took place at Parker Middle School's dance, in 1998. A boy decided that it'd be a good idea to bring a .25 caliber pistol to the event. He killed a teacher, wounded one other, and two students also got hurt before he was stopped by a man with a gun. The hero was able to get to his gun because they were on his private property for the dance.

The real kicker here, is that it took the police 11 minutes to show up to the scene. Let that sink in for a moment, friends. How much damage–how many lives could that psychopath have taken in the 11 minutes it took for the police to arrive on scene?
On a different note, I guess that goes to show you that a small projectile like a .25 can be deadly.
Moving on…
The next story, is one that many of you may have heard after it happened. A female security guard at a church brought a 9mm pistol to an AR-15 gun fight. The assailant opened fire at the church they were in, killing two and wounding a few others.
When everyone else fled the scene, this woman ran towards gun fire. The shooter had a flak jacket on, which undoubtedly slowed the 9mm projectiles down. It is also noted that the battle started when she was about 20 yards away.

While that isn't necessarily long distance, even for a pistol, that is pretty far when your heart is pumping and the stress of fight or flight has kicked in.
What's the point? While not ideal, even a handgun helps to equalize the force of a rifle to some degree. And, while it may take several shots, especially when a gunman is wearing some sort of armor, it is possible for a good guy (or gal) with a gun to stop a psychopath.
If you haven't already, make sure you check out the story at the other website to soak in the details of all the other stopped mass shootings, and remember that these are only 12 of them.

Defensive gun uses happen in this country each and every day of the week. Many of them don't even require that the bad guy gets shot. Sometimes, simply seeing the gun is enough to send a coward running.

I wish these types of enlightening stories would be in mainstream news. It’s unfortunate that we live in a society that doesn’t appreciate personal defense anymore. Like you stated at the beginning of the post, police aren’t able to get on the scene of a shooting fast enough. There are still ways that citizens need to protect themselves. Great uplifting post!
