Gun Classes: The Starter Pack

Taking the initiative to train using handguns or rifles can definitely make you defend yourself and your loved ones against any perpetrator. To get the most out of your training, you need to have the right gears.  For starters, below are the things you need to bring to your gun class.

1. Handguns

Of course, you wouldn't go to a gun class without bringing your guns. More often than not, gun facilities will inform you which gun caliber is appropriate. Typically, it's a .45 ACP or .380 Auto. But if you already have a handgun you want to use for concealed carry, they will let you use it so you'll get a hang of it. You just have to make sure the handgun is a quality pistol that will not jam after a hundred rounds.

2. Long Guns

Not all classes include the use of long guns. But if you're taking a class that requires a long gun, make sure to bring a shotgun or a rifle suitable for the class. You don't necessarily need to carry a long gun if you're in CWP, Home Defense, Basic Pistol or Personal Protection which are handgun classes.

3. Ammunition

You need bring plenty of ammo if you're going to gun classes. Bring only quality or fresh factory ammunition and make sure it is the exact ammo for your gun. Don't bring reloads, remanufactured, old, and corroded ammunitions. It is also for safety matters. Never disregard the possible predicaments with ammo that can hurt you or someone else in the shooting range.

4. Eye and Ear Protection

Safety should always come first, it is very necessary to bring and wear protective gears for your eyes and ears. Since you have no idea when bits, pieces or hot casings may hit you that is why it is imperative to wear eye protection. There are also specifically designed ear plugs or earmuffs that can reduce the loudness of the sound. Even if you handle loud gun fires, it is always better to wear protection to avoid immediate or permanent hearing loss.

5. Holster and Belt

Holsters and belts have a safety purpose and are not just a fashion preference. It is very risky to walk around with a dangling, unholstered, and a potentially loaded weapon. You might hurt yourself or other people with this sort of action. Always keep your pistols in your holsters if you are not using it. Other than that, it is also a good practice to develop drawing your gun from a holster and shoot it at the attacker if you find yourself in that particular situation.

6. Clothing

You need to wear appropriate clothing suitable to the weather or environment. Wear pants with plenty of pockets for your mags and ammunitions. You also need to wear shirts with sleeves, socks, boots or sneakers, and a cap for additional protection. Other shooters also wear a tactical vest with lots of pockets for where they can store extra magazines and ammo.

7. Food and Drink

There are some gun schools that don't have food available on the site. Bring something you can eat and drink every time you attend gun classes. If you encounter warm weather, it is a must to drink plenty of water for proper hydration. You can also bring snacks such as health bars. Do not bring beer or any other alcoholic beverages or intoxicants that can alter your behavior.
