Adams Arms 308 Review—A Marine's Rifle

I think my wife is on to me. She realizes that while she is number one in my life, there are others who draw my attention, too. You know who I mean, right?

If you've learned anything about me as of yet, I'm in love with just about any type of semi-automatic rifle. I guess this love affair goes back to my Marine background where I was taught my rifle was an extension of my body. In fact, one of our unofficial credos is “every Marine is a rifleman” before he/she is anything else.

When Adams Arms said they'd send me their small frame battle rifle chambered in my favorite cartridge (.308 Win), I said: “uh, yeah!”

I'm not going to lie. There was a period of time when I had all sorts of concerns and Adams Arms 308 problems. There was one point where I had to pogo stick it to eject a spent casing. However, I'm glad to say the cause wasn't the rifle's fault but a bad batch of cheap ammo.

After I had gotten the primer dislodged from between the bolt carrier group and wherever it was stuck, she ran like a Spanish bull. Even more so after I slid the 150 grain Tipped TSX BT cartridges from HPR into it. They ran super clean and performed flawlessly—as expected.

Ammo Rounds Test

I love to shoot, we've already got that figured out. I like to punish myself whenever I go to the range.

This time was no different. I brought this 8.15-pound rifle to the range on multiple occasions, and I'm glad to say each time I had at least 50 rounds of ammo slide through the 1:10 twisted 16-inch barrel, for a grand total of at least 500 rounds of ammo exiting the barrel at over 2,500 feet per second.

You can imagine what my shoulder looked like after sending so many projectiles down range. Fat people generally don't look at themselves in the mirror, but I accidentally did one day after getting home and couldn't believe how bruised I was, even though there is a decent collapsible buttstock and the VDI Jet Compensator.

Ease of Use

Actually, speaking about the muzzle device, it looks like a combination compensator/muzzle brake designed to help reduce felt recoil and muzzle rise. Though I admittedly did not test the firearm without the muzzle device, I can say I was able to get back on target quickly, as there wasn't a tremendous amount of muzzle rise.

As usual, I zeroed at the bench and swooped my 300-lb rear end into different positions from there. I'm happy to report that out to 100 yards, I was able to hit deadly accurate groups.

However, I'm confident those groups will get tighter if my scope didn't move off zero so much. Either way, I was on target with each shot fired, which speaks about the quality of the rifle itself. And, if for some reason the Melonite barrel ever loses its accuracy, VooDoo Innovations guarantees it for life.

What Is Melonite? It is a trademark for a process called salt bath nitriding, which improves both friction and resistance of the gun against corrosion and wear.

The SF .308 Patrol Battle Rifle came with one Lancer 20-round magazine and an Allen soft carry case to get it to and from the range with ease. If you decide to buy this rifle, I suggest snatching up a few more magazines because one just doesn't cut it.

Ergonomics

This rifle does begin to get a bit heavy after sending 80 or more rounds down range in one session. However, the rifle itself has excellent ergonomics and the collapsible stock makes it comfy to shoot, even for the biggest of dudes. Other features include a Magpul K2 grip, an adjustable gas block rail, and optional sights if you like to go old school like me.

Overall, this rifle is attractive and has enough rail space to fit anything you might need onto it, including an optic and flashlight/bipod. And, of course, you do have the option to install rail mounts on the side of the fore-grip, should your little heart desire it.

Adams Arms SF 308 Price

This rifle is an excellent buy from one of the best AR manufacturers in the country. I've never heard a single complaint from anyone who owns Adams Arms or Voodoo Innovation products.

Though the $1,700+ price tag may be a bit steep for some, the quality components give you a hint as to why the price is what it is. I definitely recommend you look for Adams Arms 308 for sale especially if you love assault rifles.
