Idiotic Anti-Gun Survey Of The Week: Doctor Edition

Dr. Asks about guns

Guess what? Another one of those nationwide gun surveys was taken, ya know…”nation-wide.” The interesting thing, is that I wasn't told about it. I'm guessing you weren't asked where you stood on the issue at hand, either. In fact, now that I think of it, none of my friends were even asked to participate in this latest survey about guns. Were any of yours?
Didn't think so…
I wonder how they come to the conclusion that most of Americans think it's okay for our general health practitioners to ask people about guns? Seriously. If actual, real-live people with fully functioning guns aren't asked if they're okay with it, how can they come to a reasonable answer to the question they pose?
Again, that question is something along the lines of: are you okay if doctors ask patients about guns?
Before we go any further, let me tell you what I think about the subject. In a word, no. No you don't have the right to ask me about something that isn't directly related to my health. If my doctor wants to ask me if I've ever been abused by my loving wife, or if I ever have thoughts of suicide, that's fine. I don't take issue with those questions. After all, they're directly related to my health.
While frustrating, I'll even allow him to continually lecture me on this last (or first, depending upon your perspective) 100 or so pounds I'm trying to lose. Why? Because I'm a fat-ass, and it is a health concern.

But, guns for the sake of hunting/self-defense? Um, no. You don't need to know. I mean, guns? In my house? Really? Do I look like the type to own weapons of mass destruction?
HA!
Anyway, back to the point. The survey is extremely flawed, and yet the “experts” claim it as factual proof, as usual. According to FOX News, of the 3,900 people surveyed (again, not you or I), only 35% of them either were, or lived with, a gun owner. This means that many, if not most, of them are to some degree “against guns.”
Listen, Doc, if you want to get involved to try and teach people about something you know nothing about, that's fine. Have someone like the NSSF, the NRA, or the GOA draft something up which actually teaches people about how to handle firearms in a safe manner. Have them outline the importance of keeping guns out of irresponsible hands, and then hand it to everybody!

Heck, I'll even do it for ya, under the guise of the American Gun Association.
There really is no need to ask people about guns because most of us are going to lie about it anyway. I'm totally against lying in every context except this one. I'd rather sleep on the couch by telling my wife how she really looks in her latest dress than lie to her. That's how I am…but this?
Now, I'll have to lie about owning guns because I don't need anyone knowing about them. Let me practice, ready?
Dr. Soandso, no I don't have any guns in my house.
Sound Off Gun Carriers! How do you feel about medical doctors asking you about your firearms lifestyle? Are you okay with it? Am I totally off balance? Am I nuts? Or, do you think the same way I do? Let me know in the comments below. Then, tell us what you'd do if you were, or have been, asked about the guns in your life.
