3 Best Rifles For Long Range Shooting

long range shooting

Need a new firearm for the upcoming hunting season? Or do you just want to perfect your target shooting in case things get dicey over the next few months (we kid)?

Whatever your reasons, here are some of the best long-range shooting rifles, complete with our seal of approval.

Long Range Shooting Rifles Worth Your Money

1. Bergara B14 Ridge 6.5 Creedmoor

This high-quality rifle has everything you could want in a long-range firearm.

It’s chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, one of the best long-range hunting or tactical cartridges ever created, and has a 4+1 capacity for taking multiple shots in rapid succession.

Add to that the extremely accurate barrel: this is machined from 4140 chrome-moly steel for added durability and exceptional accuracy.

The rifle features a barreled action that’s placed on a fiber-reinforced polymer stock.

This is pretty durable according to our standards, but it’s also not too uncomfortable, even with the considerable recoil that 6.5 Creedmoor weapons usually produce.

We also really like that the receiver is already drilled and tapped. You can fit it with standard Remington 700 mounts and rings, so feel free to add your favorite optic.

The trigger is factory-set at about 3 pounds of pressure and breaks crisply with every shot.

The rifle has an all-black finish for aesthetic elegance and only weighs 7.9 pounds in total. Carrying it in a bag alongside lots of ammunition or other accessories won’t be an issue. All in all, it's a top-tier long-range rifle that firearm enthusiasts will love.

2. Ruger American Predator 6.5 Creedmoor

Here’s another top-tier long-range firearm chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, though it has a 3+1 overall capacity instead of 4+1. Still, there’s a lot to like here, starting with a proprietary “Power Bedding” system that sets the barrel so it’s free-floating.

If you aren’t aware, this can dramatically increase your accuracy by keeping the barrel separate from the receiver at the time of bullet ejection. It’s something that any sharpshooter will want in their firearm.

Even better, the barrel is threaded for more accuracy benefits.

It also features a 70° bolt throw for cartridge ejection; this stays well clear of any mounted optics you might choose to use.

The trigger is fully adjustable and allows you to fine-tune the amount of pressure you use to squeeze off around.

The rifle only weighs 6.6 pounds in total, so carrying this around for long hours on a hunting trip shouldn’t be too much trouble. The receiver is already drilled and tapped, so setting up your own optics is super easy.

Altogether, it’s a durable and affordable long-range rifle that doesn’t have many serious downsides.

3. Remington 700 ADL Varmint Bolt-Action Rifle

Anyone who needs to hunt down small to medium-sized animals at a distance will want to take a look at this long-range rifle.

It comes with a heavily contoured barrel for extra accuracy and great performance even in cold or wet outdoor conditions.

It’s also bolstered by a rugged synthetic stock; this has a beavertail forend for better grip and enhanced stability.

The weapon is built with a nonadjustable trigger that, even though you can’t change it to your liking, is pretty crisp with every squeeze.

The cylindrical receiver built with the weapon is ideally sized for the stock. The weapon has great heft and balance to it that firearm enthusiasts will recognize.

The receiver is also already drilled and tapped for scope mounts.

The matte black finish for the barrel rounds out its aesthetic elements.

We think that’ll be another great choice if you want something high-quality and accurate at a distance without breaking the bank.

3 Best Rifles For Long Range Shooting

  1. Douglas C. Robinson says:

I have used a Winchester Model 70 in 7mm Magnum caliber with a 3 x 9 scope, for 45 years to hunt wild pigs, deer, and coyote. Shooting at ranges of out to 450 yards. Very good and accurate. For smaller game I use a Remmington 788, in 223 caliber/5.56 mm with a 4 power scope. I zero both rifles to be 1″ high at 100 yards. Both are then right on at 200 yards. I shot at the “expert” level for 24 years in the military.
