Missouri Man Refuses Aid, Dies From Snake Bite

Recently an man in Missouri died after being bitten twice by a snake.  In North America, it's rare for people to die from snake bites.  There have been less than a dozen snake bite deaths in the US since 2010, and in the majority of those cases the victim did not seek medical attention.

That was the case for Gilbert De Leon.  He refused to go to the hospital because he couldn't afford the bill.  This should serve as a reminder that being prepared isn't just about the total collapse of society.  It's also about every day emergencies, especially when you can't get to or can't afford medical help.

The victim’s companion pleaded with him to go to a hospital for treatment. However, the man refused, stating that he was not financially able to afford the cost of an emergency room visit from the animal attack. Instead, he went home, Cole said. There, the man fell asleep despite more pleas from his girlfriend to visit the hospital. At some point later, she heard the man snoring louder than usual. The next morning, she found her lover dead.

This man did not die from a snake bite, he died from being STUPID!
In an emergency situation like this, the hospital will either work out a payment schedule,. or , not pursue collection on humanitarian reasons.

Outside of a snake bite kit and knowing how to use it, that’s about it. Good subject
    to persue.

I agree with holtonfb, that this could be stupidity but on the other hand, it is a sad commentary on the financial mindset of people. You might be surprised to know how many people do not know that you can get treated in emergency situations. To choose imminent death over getting help because of money is something that should not happen. EVER.

    Thanks Obamacare!
But seriously, medical care has become so expensive that it is a reflexive act to just refuse it.
