The Mossberg Silver Reserve II Side-by-Side is a break-action shotgun available in 12-, 20-, and 28-gauge. Manufactured by Mossberg International, this handsome side-by-side has features that will surely impress both new and seasoned hunters and shooters.

Last year, I had the privilege of shooting a 28-gauge model. I must say it’s hard to pass up on this beauty. Let me share with you some more details about one of the best shotguns in this post.

Combining traditional with modern elements and manufacturing techniques, the Mossberg Silver Reserve II Side-by-Side has been a popular choice for sporting clays and bird hunting.

For a very reasonable price, this shotgun has refined details parallel to those high-end double guns. This beauty is from Turkey.

Gun Specs

Every Mossberg Silver Reserve II shotgun has a set of five field chokes. All three gauges (12, 20, and 28) have shell extractors and a wraparound scroll engraving.

  • Barrel: 26″, 28″
  • Capacity: 2-shot
  • Features: side-by-side
  • Finish: Satin/silver receiver/blued barrels
  • Gauge: 12, 20, 28 ( 2-3/4″ and 3″ chambers)
  • Sight: Front bead
  • Stocks: Black walnut
  • Weight: 6.5 to 7.5 lbs

Ease of Use and Performance

This Mossberg Silver Reserve II’s function was excellent. Once the gun gets hot and dirty, though, the shells can get a little tight in the chambers, though it doesn’t necessarily stick. The good thing is this shotgun has a large forearm to protect your hand when the barrel gets hot.

When I started shooting clays using the 28-gauge model, I never missed one. The gun pointed naturally and shouldered quite well. What I love about this side-by-side is its length is just about right for an excellent maneuver.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Attractive
  • Well-balanced
  • Easy to maneuver
  • Lightweight
  • Shoulders well
  • Points naturally

Cons:

  • Shells can get snug when the gun is hot and dirty
  • Has a pistol grip instead of a straight grip
  • Single Trigger

Overall Verdict and Price

While I don't particularly like the single trigger and pistol grip, the Mossberg Silver Reserve II Side-by-Side is still a good buy for a price of $800 to $850.

Given I haven’t missed a single clay using the 28-gauge model, I’ll be glad to bring this side-by-side in the field for some shooting.
