We're always looking for interesting ways to repurpose everyday items as survival tools. You'd be surprised at just how many prepper hacks you can get out of the things you probably have lying around your house—even things you might throw away every day.

1. Use Dryer Sheets to Repel Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes will always be a part of the great outdoors. It's a good thing you can use dryer sheets to repel them as a considerably cheap solution, too.

The sheets seem to have a chemical compound that repels mosquitoes. Just rub a couple of dryer sheets on your body where mosquitoes normally target.

2. Make a Survival Fishing Kit with a Soda Tab and Dental Floss

Did you know a mere soda tab and some dental floss can convert to a fishing tool? With just a pair of scissors, the soda tab can be made into a hook for fishing, while the floss is a strong enough string to hold the hook.

All that's left to do is secure your bait then off to fish.

3. Make a Survival Stove Out of a Coffee Can

This next item uses a medium-sized coffee can to make a survival stove. Just a few simple cuts around the can and a toilet paper roll inside will do the trick.

You can use rubbing alcohol as the fuel source to last for several cooking sessions.

4. Make an Emergency Candle Out of a Crayon

There are times when you need immediate lighting and there's no candle in sight. All you need to do is use kindergarten crayons.

Place a crayon on a fireproof surface and light the tip with a match until it catches fire. The paper around the crayon will act as a wick and will last longer than you expect.

5. Use a Peanut Can to Protect Your Toilet Paper While Camping

It's frustrating when your toilet paper gets wet, especially when using it in the outdoors. Luckily, you can utilize a peanut can to protect it.

Cut a slit from top to bottom on the peanut can to make way for the tip of the toilet paper to get through. Shove the toilet paper in the can and it's done!
