Spartan Armor Armaply™ Swimmers Cut Plate Carrier Review

A Well Designed, Versatile Armor Plate

In order to compensate for such a well-designed armor plate that allows the operator as much versatility as possible, The Target Man and Spartan Armor Systems teamed up with Beez Combat Systems, a leading industry provider of tactical gear and equipment, to design a plate carrier that would conform to the Spartan Armor ATC Level III+ Extreme Lightweight Steel Core Body Armor.

For an armor plate that only weighs 6.6 pounds with a proven multi-hit capability against some of the most commonly found rifle rounds, only the best manufacturing could be trusted to design a carrier that would allow the operator the maneuverability needed to get the objective done regardless of the environment.

The result: The Spartan Armor Systems Armaply Swimmers Cut Plate Carrier. Unlike other plate carriers, the Armaply Plate Carrier is designed specifically for Armaply ATC Level III+ Extreme Lightweight Steel Core Body Armor. Three options are available for the Spartan Armor Armaply Plate Carrier: low profile, MOLLE, and full cummerbund.

The Spartan Armor Systems Armaply Plate Carrier also features:

  • Made from 1000 denier Cordura
  • Modular webbing throughout carrier
  • PALS/MOLLE style webbing
  • Velcro name tag, ID, blood type patch
  • Bottom load design to secure plates
  • Reinforced drag handle
  • 10” shoulder pads available
  • Removable and adjustable interior pads for airflow
  • Cummerbund openings for rigid inserts or side armor
  • Low profile, MOLLE, Cummerbund option(s)
  • Various color variety
  • Made in the U.S.A

Field Tested and Approved

Due to the design of the Spartan Armor Armaply Extreme Lightweight Body Armor, the Armaply Plate Carrier is naturally lighter than other carriers that hold standard 10”x12” hard armor plates.  Even with a full load the fact that the front and back Armaply Extreme Lightweight plates only weigh 6.7lbs makes a significant difference with your load-out options.

Loaded with a full AK47 3-Magazine Shingle, hydration bladder, map pouch, utility pouch, and IFAK (Individual First Aid Kit), the Spartan Armor Armaply Plate Carrier still weighs next to nothing, in training terms.

With a plate carrier and armor proven to be so light and durable, field testing the maneuverability of the plates was a must. Standing, crawling, prone, and kneeling positions were all a breeze as well as climbing over rock, debris, trees, hills, and mountains.  In fact, with the design of the lower end of the plates to protect primarily the vitals, there is much more room for the waist to bend to counter the obstacle in place.

Shouldering a rifle is truly what makes the Armaply Body Armor from Spartan Armor Systems an extremely well thought-out piece of equipment. The triple curve of the armor plate allows the plate to conform to the body so well that virtually there is no plate to obstruct the way of a rifle mount transition.

The natural awkwardness of an AK47 stock held up to the Armaply Plate Carrier as well as the brute force of a 12 gauge shotgun when firing slugs down range. The unique design of the Spartan Armor Armaply ATC Level III+ Extreme Lightweight Steel Core Body Armor is that the plate does not interfere with the shoulder, as the design is focused on protecting the heart and lungs instead. This design also allows reaching for a secondary firearm such as a sidearm from all areas if mounted on the chest, hip, or even utilizing a cross draw.
