Texan Shotgun Wedding – Buy A Ring, Get A Gun

Remington 870

Some things are just better down in Texas. I mean, there's God, lots of guns, plenty of good food, and a lot of guns (I think I said that one already). Did I mention that Texans, well, most of Texans, love their guns? They love their guns so much down there, that one jewelry store in Lubbock is ramping up for their 3rd annual Shotgun Wedding Sale.
I shoot you not … buy a ring; get a gun.
While the rest of the world may find that ludicrous, this is the sort of thing that makes me want to move to the Lone Star State. The two day event is just a couple of days away taking place from October 27th to the 29th and is expected to have a great turn out. According to the CNN source article (of all places) last year they sold 30 engagement rings over those few days. The chance to get a gun is made available by making a reservation on their website, if you're interested in going.

How much do you need to spend on a ring to get the gun? You need to buy a ring “valued over $2,000” from Thacker Jewelry to qualify for one of the two firearms they're offering. Which guns can you get? Option number one is a Remington 870 pump-action 12 gauge shotgun, while number two is a Savage bolt action rifle chambered in .243 Winchester. The rifle also comes with a scope.
Heck, if you're planning to tie the knot anyway, and live down in Texas, it may be a good idea to head on over to Lubbock, if it's close enough, so you can have a Shotgun Wedding.
Stuff like this makes me wonder why more businesses don't participate in Shotgun Weddings, or Shotgun Drive-aways. The firearms industry is hot right now, and will likely continue to be regardless of who gets into office this November. Personally speaking, if someone offered to give me a gift certificate for a firearm if I bought a pickup truck, I'd at least mosey on down to the dealership to see what's going on.
