But that may be because the majority of us have never spent time in a war zone or highly secured police state-like environment.

In Concord, New Hampshire the local police chief has filed a requisition with the Department of Homeland Security to beef up his police force with a Ballistic Engineered Armored Response Counter Attack Truck to quell any disturbances initiated by activists or other potential domestic terrorists.
In response, the residents held a city council meeting, prompting a retired Marine Colonel to weigh in.
He was formerly a coordinator tasked with manning, training and equipping the Iraqi Army throughout the northern provinces, and he candidly shares his insights and compares the nationwide lock-down in Iraq to what’s happening right here at home.
This is coming from someone who knows – someone who has seen exactly how a population is put under control by means of surveillance and force – and he suggests that what they did in Iraq is child’s play compared to what’s happening in the Land of the Free today.
My job was to man, train and equip the Iraqi Army in Al Anbar, Najaf, Karbala and the northern provinces… We did everything we could to make it as strong as possible.

The way we do things in the military is called task organization. You take a command and then you attach units to it in order to accomplish the mission.
What’s happening is Homeland Security is pre-staging gear and equipment… what they’re trying to do is use standardized vehicles, standardized equipment.
I saw a picture of the Marathon bombing and there were two officers – they both had identical helmets, flack jackets, weapons… everything I wore in Iraq.

As someone very familiar with what is going on behind the scenes, I couldn’t agree more – Unless Syria and Egypt ignite into that type of chaos that commands “boots on the ground” intervention – redirecting their focus, you can bet that the focus will be on internal security within the United States. An informed citizenry with key leaders will be needed to organize a response to those who would attempt to suppress and muzzle the U.S. Constitution and those liberties afforded. It has been, quietly, published that each class of FEMA Emergency Responders is about 230 people, and they graduate a class every two weeks. DHS is doing the same thing. Do the math for a year, two years, ten years. Factor in the Equipment, arms and billions of rounds of ammo (more than the military uses in training, by far). Do some research on your own. I was in Iraq and saw the same “UP ARMORED” there that we are seeing here. Why? What good will they be in a flood? Tornado? Hurricane? Then when you get the warm fuzzy of that part. Think Hurricane Sandy. How effective were FEMA or DHS troops there? Or Newtown?

This is such an exaggeration of reality!!! First of all, we basically lost to the insurgency in Iraq. Second of all, Homeland Security can’t come close to the effectiveness of our military. I bet if there was a real life battle between US Marines and Homeland Security Law Enforcement Officers, he wouldn’t side with Homeland Defense if he wanted to survive. Third…the citizens of the United States are the largest armed group of people in the world bar none. A massive number of them have also served in the military and have training. If it ever comes to a societal break down where the citizens are against the government, its over extremely fast for the government. They will have defectors coming out their ears for one and they will face an armed militia in a scope and size the world has never seen.
I think its more likely that Homeland Security can forsee that terrorism is coming back to US soil at some point. Who knows where and how bad but when it does come back, we in theory can’t use our highly trained and experienced military to combat it. So we need a domestic army as the Colonel states. I understand there are instances of abuse by our police officers but by far and large, they are some of the most professional and polite people we encounter. They look down the barrel of a lawsuit everyday which can end their career’s based on publicity alone. You think their superiors don’t go into cya mode and hang them out to dry? This is America. DHS NAZI, I was a tanker yanker in Iraq for a year as a contractor. The same vehicles that I saw there (different paint) are here. The same equipment on our troops is being seen here. But these FEMA and DHS troops are better equipped.
Remember when our troops first went into Iraq? A lot of the troops didn’t even have bullet proof vests, the parents were sending them what they needed from here, paid out of Mom and Dad’s pocket.
I remember, my sons were there. Both of them. I sent my sons short range private citizen band radios from Radio Shack, because they didn’t have enough radios to talk even within their own command. See my post above. Incidentally, both my sons are Sniper trained. Take it from me. Sleeping pills don’t work for dads, when your only children are being shot at far away.
Sounds like it’s time to choose sides. Either arm yourselves or be a slave to the almighty government. Another revolution is close at hand and many people know it. For myself, I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees.

The NSA and national police force, including SWAT, would be no match for our Marines and special forces, who I doubt would turn against American citizens. I also do not believe most police forces, sheriffs departments, national guard and state police would side with the government under the conditions described in the article. My father, brother and son have all been lifetime military and assure me everyone in the service they know would stand up to defend US citizens against a tyrannicl government.

I was in Puerto Rico in about 2010 or so (I am guessing) and the National guard troops ran a joint exercise with the local police, and the National Guardsman that came to our property was neither polite or friendly he was very threatening and locked and loaded for a domestic neighborhood dispute? The local police were always polite and friendly. I do not and will not trust this Gov’t any longer.I still love this country and the Constitution and our Bill of Rights.

I have been a combat arms soldier and I have been a SWAT officer. A good SWAT team is just as good as the Tier 1 military teams except they don’t get to throw frags or blow buildings up. But in the guns and flashbang room clearing they are equal. I hope that I am never the target of any good team. A poorly trained team will still win but they will pay a higher butcher’s bill to will. But, ALL teams train and plan to win,an individual, no matter how good or a group who are not a trained team WILL lose. So Homeland Security may lose in the long run of an end of democracy scenario due to attrition but you don’t want to be one of their early targets. You will lose! By the way, some of their teams are in the catagory of the Best of the Best.

We also have a problem here in Australia. There has been an influx of american troops (naval and land based)into the north of this country through the port of Darwin. In excess of 10,000 have arrived ( and was increasing), but the media is no longer reporting anything in regard to this. It is not related to the joint exercise occurring in Queensland at the moment. The media reports that finally started stated that the influx of troops was to provide increased security for Australia in the far north. There has also been reports that the gi’s are being issued with australian regular soldier kit! My spin is that australian troops will not fire on their own people, but I do not know what US troops would do if ordered to fire on australian civilians. Plainly there are problems and “secret squirrel” agendas in both our nations! I love my country, but I do not trust government in any shape or form. Food for thought.

There are 2 senarios which will work for the correct answer,…and neither is really good, but here goes:
senario #1: It is as the Col says, and the Government is building a domestic army to take over our freedom and crush us under a Communist/Socialist DICATORSHIP and our Constitution and Freedoms go out the window. OR….
senario #2: The Government knows we have only a few more days/weeks/months before the big PONZI scheme is up and the US dollar is toilet paper. When this occurs, the panic and rioting will be horendous due to so many idiots who were too busy getting lattes and playin soccer moms, and being the kool dads at the club. Food and WATER will be out in 4-5 hours from every store and the big cities will go into riots. Since the Drug Gangs are a): ORGANIZED, b): HEAVILY ARMED, & (most importantly)…C): RUTHLESS, they will control entire areas in the big cities until they need to move for food and water. Then we have a BIG problem. Civil War. If you live in a big city, you better have a bugout bag, arms, bike, or dirtbike with plenty gas, and a route worked out. Having served in the Army, and working as a local law enforcement officer, I can tell you the Colonel is misguided in his rant. The local police are no where near the same type of people that serve in the DHS Police organization. Armored vehicles do serve a purpose in local law enforcement and have been used for DECADES by local police department.
There are bad people here in the US that like to prey on the ignorant and gullible citizens. These people are bad as any soldier the good Colonel came across in Iraq. They rob stores, invade people’s homes, and kill / injure / rape them all the time. The local law enforcement officers fight these bad people on a daily basis. We are NOT the same as Federal Police. We are shot at and we are killed. There were over 200 officers killed last year in the US.
Having a Bearcat is a tool we use to help save our lives and I’ve personally seen it in action and know for a fact that I would not be here today if it weren’t for having the armored vehicle to soak up the rounds that were being shot at me. No difference than when I was in Iraq. Does the good Colonel think that we in local law enforcement should not be afforded the same protection as the military? Does he think the bullets shot at us cops here in the US are less lethal than the ones shot at troops in Iraq?
Maybe the good Colonel should go to police academy, strap on a vest and badge and come work my job for a little while. He’d change his damn tune in a heartbeat. I’ve served in Iraq and now as a police officer in Texas. I can tell you that a bullet will kill you the same here as it will in Iraq. One other point, my department is NOT influenced by Obama or the DHS. MY CHIEF answers to the city manager and mayor. We do what is best for our citizens to keep them and us safe. Not what the federal government says.
I do NOT believe the DHS needs armored vehicles. Nor do they need billions of rounds of ammo. I know something is amiss and don’t trust ANYTHING that is associated with the federal government. I know the Obama regime is corrupt and this country IS on the brink of collapse. I’m a realist and I keep myself informed, and I’m prepared for the collapse. I just don’t want this dip shit Colonel lumping LOCAL law enforcement in with FEDERAL law enforcement. They are NOT the same, no way, no how. For him to cry about his local law enforcement agency wanting to purchase a tool to keep their officers safe is ridiculous. The local law enforcement are citizens that live I. Your city and work tirelessly to keep it safe for your family AND ours.
In conclusion, please tell the good colonel to keep his focus in the right place – the federal government, and NOT to confuse us local cops with the federal thugs of the Obama regime.

Homeland Security and other federal deployment are preparing for the day when the United States is paralyzed by an EMP assault from a North Korean satellite already in polar orbit. It would be interesting to know whether FEMA other federal equipment has been hardened against strong electromagnetic pulses. People have had to heard about the police raid, sorry don’t remember the state. They staged a raid on a man’s home around 2:00am or so and
this man had his wife and child in the same room he was in plus he was armed and when the shit squad started to break into his home he did what any red blooded American would do, picked up his weapon and was defending what was his.
