Because today is Veteran's Day, I wanted to stop and give thanks to all of the veterans who have served and those who serve today.

The Reason I Fly The Flag On Veteran's Day

November 11th is Veteran's Day, and in the middle of the hustle and bustle of daily life I wanted to stop and give thanks to all of the veterans who have served and those who serve today. And I hope that you will too.

I have a task for you… A mission that I hope you will accept. Make it your mission to find a veteran today, shake their hand, and give them a genuine thank you for every day of freedom that you have known and will know.

I know I will.

A friend of mine sent me this truly touching video, and I wanted to share it with you.

Please watch it now:

This man flies his flag because it's a Saturday and because he can.

Why will you fly the flag today (and every day after)? I look forward to seeing your answers.

Why I Fly The Flag On Veteran’s Day

  1. Ron Shipe says:

I fly two flags, the Stars and Stripes and the Marine Corps Eagle Globe and Anchor, every day. Why? Because I love what they stand for, that’s why.
    Semper Fi, America!

  2. juanita robinson says:

I fly my flag 24-7. Its lighted at night so it can be seen. On other military holidays I fly a total of 38 flags. One on every fence post across the front of my property. My gate posts also have flags. My husband is retired military and come from a military family background. I am proud of my country.

    1. bendecido says:

Thank your husband for all of my family. We really appreciate all he did.

  3. Robert Kasel says:

I am a Vietnam Nam Vet.Served with the 26th Marines at Khe SAnh. I fly my Flag 24/7 365 day’s a year because it stand’s for everything I believe in. Freedom to live my life as I see fit.Freedom of speech,of religion, freedom to come and go as I choose.Freedom to just be myself. That is why I fly my Flag today and everyday.

  4. GenEarly says:

I’m sorry, very sorry but If I fly the “flag” at all it’s on the 4th of July….upside down.
The USSA is not the USA, and foreign NWO Bankster Wars are not “patriotic”. I am no longer goose stepping to the Oligarch Elitists ruling this country of perversity, and Feral Gov. Tyranny. How long can people continue to support a government that ignores The Constitution?
NY is confiscating citizens legal guns, the border is deliberately, illegally kept Open, “money” is printed out of thin air and illegally, on and on the ProgreSSives march…..Not me, No more, not one inch further “Forward”.

“Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.”
    George Washington

    1. GenEarly says:

Our Veterans are now viewed as “terrorists” and dangerous by the Feral Gov.
Vets are stigmatized with PTSD and put on debilitating Psych Drugs, which also strips them of their 2nd amendment Rights…..
      How convenient!
Now we are told we must have a “do over” in Iraq???

      1. Pilgrim says:

Well said sir, well said. Our soldiers fought for the freedoms we enjoy today. Slowly the LEFT is stripping away those freedoms. Do you sense another Revolutionary War on the rise? It is the same kind of tyranny they had then as we have now.

May we be on God’s side in all that we do!

    2. Linda says:

Yes, you are sorry. It’s sorry citizens like you that denigrate our country, our flag, our veterans, and our freedoms.
If there are problems with our government, it’s still the best in the world. If there are terrible laws and people who enforce them, it’s still the best in the world.
It’s up to us to do something about it – not “dis” the country and the flag. I am a veteran and I am glad I had the opportunity to help our country be great. Is it perfect? NO! No country, or government is perfect. It’s up to us to make it better by the way we live, by the way we vote, by the way we support those who do the right things. It’s up to us to unite to improve it all.
Stop being sorry and start being proactive in making the country one we can all be proud of. You insult me and every veteran who has ever served YOU in our military by flying the flag upside down.

      1. GenEarly says:

I am doing something madam, using my 1st amendment before the 2nd amendment becomes a necessity.Did you not read a word I said before reacting that I am attacking the veterans or our liberty.
Try this on for size as you allow the USSA to complete it’s police state. Veterans and active duty have big bulls eyes on their backs.
        Wake up.

        1. GenEarly says:

PS: the upside down flag is a sign of distress, not disrespect.

      2. Larry Campbell says:

God Bless you Linda, you said it a lot better than I ever could. Thank you. I too am a vet and am still proud of my country even though it has slipped a bunch since our present government has taken over. It’s still the best country in the world.

    3. Bud says:

I don’t trust our perverted gov’t. either but I still love my country. I guess Obummer would classify me as another stubborn patriot.

    4. Realist says:

GenEarly, as far as I am concerned you are more courageous than anyone who ever served in any branch of the military. It takes guts to stand for right when the majority is against you. Most comments made here are from those who choose to take the path of least resistance. You on the other hand seem to think for yourself and you don’t just parrot ‘patriotic’ propaganda you heard on the nightly news. Thank YOU!

    5. MICK J says:

The question was not about our current state affairs in this country. It was about the flag and what it stands for. That will never change. It’s meaning is dear and precious. And for you to disrespect it…..well, you have that right because of that flag. Don’t disrespect the flag…. Blame the people who stand behind it as they try to tear the country apart. But never ever….blame the flag for our woes.
Having said that…your right. But not about the flag and the total disrespect you show it. SHAME…!!

  5. Mike Hammer says:

I fly my flag every day. It shows my respect to my country, to those who serve and those who have served. It is respect to those who have fought for this great country, and to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Freedom isn’t free.

  6. Tom says:

I fly the flag because I am proud to be an american.Thank you veterans. All gave some and some gave all. God bless you all.

  7. Patrick Thomas says:

Liberals and progressives will hate this video because it comes from the heart of a real patriot and gentlemen. Liberals and progressives basically hate what our country stands for. In their demented logic they think Obama should have full power over our country and government. They are all sociopaths like Obama.

    1. Virginia says:

I qualify as one of those liberal progressives and i don’t hate this video. I flag the flag for the very same reasons the gentleman in the video says he does. I do have one patriotic gripe: As we’ve learned painfully, not everyone can actually sing the National Anthem, but EVERYONE can learn the words and at least “mouth” along. Given the time and money the USA invests in its national teams for Olympics, etc., those who win the events should be able to sing the Anthem when the flag is raised, even if only silently. It’s embarassing to see them mumble and fluff the words.

  8. Mark says:

I fly old Glory everyday and have her lighted at night. 24/7

  9. Margaret Sessions says:

I fly the flag and visit the cemeteries to say thank you and may you sacrifice not be in vain. People have gotten complacent, :let Joe do it” and this country is slowly losing its backbone because God has been removed from the government and prayer is banned. WHY? because we no longer fight for what is right lest it offend an atheist.

  10. Michael Schaefer says:

I fly the flag everyday. Everyday because I love my country. I want to remind all those who want to take away or change my freedoms that I once served. No I was not a combat veteran. But I answered the call, and I always wanted to be asked to do more, but I wasn’t. I fly the flag to remember that every time our country called or needed brave men, someone from my family was there. From the Indian wars in West Virginia, the American Revolution, War of 1812, The Civil War, World War One, Wirld War Two, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq, Afganistan and in between, Someone, in my family stepped up to serve. I fly the flag everyday to honor my family, honor my country and thank God to be blessed to live in this Great Nation!

  11. Gary says:

Thank you to all the Vets!!! Me- I fly the flag 24/7. Because I belive in it and what it stands for.

  12. Vincent Natale says:

I fly our Flag every day out of respect for the sacrifices of every person to have worn an American armed forces uniform (and their families). I did not serve. I have the utmost respect and heartfelt appreciation for those who carried the weight of protecting my family and the country I love. I can never repay them but I can Honor them and never forget my debt to all of them. God bless and protect our troops and our country.

  13. Bob Steece says:

Our flag flys 24 7 on a lighted 25′ pole in honer of our troops and I mite say it is the only one on our 1/2 mile street. Semper Fi

  14. Cat says:

I put up the flag for all the reasons in the video, and also for the sake of those who are ashamed of it and “the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all”.
I put up the flag as a reminder that “the price of liberty is eternal vigilance”, and without that vigilance we stand to lose our freedoms, may even now be perilously close to losing them, as we slouch toward a cushy form of tyranny in which an obese central government doles out the basic material needs to a demoralized populace, in return for their compliance, and liberty and justice are redefined in whatever way the powers-that-be see fit.
I put up the flag as a form of prayer for our nation, that we might reverse this course and return to our founding principles.

    1. Vincent Natale says:

Amen…Well stated, sounds like a prayer that should be in every one’s heart.

  15. Alexis says:

I fly the United States of America’s flag because I am proud of this republic. I fly the flag because it reminds me of why I served and why others are serving.
I’M FLYING THE US FLAG BECAUSE I’M AN AMERICAN!!!

  16. thomas meisenheimer says:

I fly double flags on a 22′ pole everyday, 24/7, because I still see the faces of those I trained with that didn’t come home. Served US Army: 1964,65 and 66. Army National Guard !983-90.

  17. Chilli says:

I got the flashlight that I ordered and it’s spectacular I have another headlamp from the same company and I’ve always been impressed by the ultra blindness that it causes. Thanks for the great deal look forward to getting more good stuff from you

  18. Francis says:

We fly our flag 24/7, lighted, except during hurricanes. Why? Because of my Dad (Patton’s armored through Bastogne) and myself (USAF navigator); but, really to show that I am still willing to cash that blank check for the Republic and THIS Constitution – for my children and grandchild.

The flag(s) went up 24/7 the Saturday after Sep 11, 2001.

  19. Vic G says:

This is exactly why I fly the Flag everyday, 24/7/365…

  20. myra says:

Why I fly the flag. Because this country deserves the respect of being recognized. Because I am gratful to all who defend this country! For those who defend the laws local and national with gratitude to each of them. Because we have the freedom to fly that proud flag. Because I hope it will inspire others to fly a flag too. Because since I was born ( I was almost 3 when Peral Harbor was bombed and since then it seems we have had something we defended pretty much constantly! We must keep honoring our country and all it stands for. God Bless America!

  21. LARRY E. PUCKETT says:

    GenEarly

I agree with you. As soon as the Election was over, I had a bumper sticker
made that says,”DIS-UNITED SOCIIALIST STATES OF AMERIKA. I HAVE HAD IT THERE EVER SINCE. I also have one that states HITLERY BENGHAZI ANSWERS I AM SO MADE AT AMERICA FOR VOTING “THE SPAWN OF SATAN” IN AS OUR PRESIDENT, I COULD KICK EVERY LAST ONE’S BUTT ALL THE WAY TO WASHINGTON. We need to take our country back, and I am ready to march with you. Haul (ITS) A$$ right out of
OUR WHITE HOUSE, AND TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS!!! I spent my time in the Navy, and when I retired became a Police Officer. I had to deal with the riots brought about by a bunch over indulged punks whose parents told them they could do anything they wanted!! That included killing some of my fellow officers, and that made me mad!! I was disability retired, went back to school and became a teacher so I could do my part to re-control our country.
my students did the pledge every morning, and I had vets come in and talk to my kids so they knew the knew the military wasn’t against them. Now it is going to take full military action to TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK!!!! ENOUGH SAID!!
    LOCK AND LOAD!!!

    1. Realist says:

Larry E., Study the history of the Pledge of Allegiance (POA)You are doing your students no favors by having them recite it. Instead, teach them about the 10th amendment that makes each state a sovereign state. Study Judge Andrew Napolitano’s articles and videos about true liberty and share with students. Please don’t perpetuate the misconception that just becuse a person happens to be born on American soil that person somehow owes the country/government respect.

  22. CW Creighton says:

I have flown my flag in my front yard since 911 and I will continue until all of our troops have come home…..

  23. Gil Giley says:

Sadly, not enough of us Americans fly our flags on a routine basis for federal holidays specially Veterans Day. On my street which has about 20 homes only two of us fly old glory. I hope that there is an awakening soon to appreciate what a great country we live in and give thanks to all those who sacrificed to keep us free.

  24. Terry says:

I fly the flag because I know folks that died to give others the right to disagree with me … and me to disagree with them … cause I and they have the freedom to disagree .. till someone starts taking my freedom away … I’ll fly the flag

  25. Berlemann says:

    Roger that!
    EW3 Berlemann

  26. sandra mccollum says:

we put out our flags because we have always lived in the land of the free plus my husband is a vet his dad was one my dad and both my brothers was too we love what our flag stands for and hopes we get back on the right track before its to let

  27. tim downing says:

I fly my flag 24/7 because i believe it is the greatest flag in the world. I fly my flag to teach my kids what freedom is and the sacrifices made by our military. My neighbors oldest is career Navy and second son is a trooper. I fly my flag because i can and i will forever until God puts me in the ground.
    hoorah!!!

  28. Terry Henson says:

I fly the American flag everyday to Honor those who gave everything for my right to fly the flag.

  29. dave says:

I put up a flag because I served in the army so any one can have their own opinion about weather to put up a flag.

  30. bari shepard says:

We also fly our flag, proudly, 24/7. We also replace it when its needed. We keep it clean and dry and very prominently displayed. We fly in in the face of our neighbors who do not fly a flag but do enjoy annoying us with their liberal views.

  31. turpentinequeen says:

My husband spent 21 1/2 years serving our country, 9 years in the Navy & 12 1/2 years in the Army. He survived Viet Nam, where many of his fellow brothers-in-arms did not. Some days he has survivor’s remorse, but I thank God everyday that he came home to me. We fly our flag everyday in honor of his brothers who did not make that journey home to the families and friends that loved them. That’s the least we can give them. Our Christmas tree is white and our ornaments are red, white and blue and on the top instead of an angel we place the American flag, as this country was founded under God, the main reason the first pilgrims came here was to be able to worship God how they wanted. The American flag represents that and so much more to us. God Bless America.

  32. stephen says:

i fly my flag everyday for that very reason i have grown up in the military and have servrd myself out of respect for ll that have had and will serve i honor you

  33. Rich says:

I fly my flag because our veterans have served to defend our right to do so. I thank them when I can. I wish that our Gov’t do the same.
    Thank you
    Ret. TSGT Richard Kopp.
