Experts have said time and time again how beneficial lemon water is to the human body.
Water is extremely good for your health as it is the best way to keep your body hydrated. It also aids your body in flushing out harmful toxins.
Lemon is a great source of many nutrients such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron, vitamin A, vitamin C, and B-Complex. It is also a great source of pectin fiber, proteins, and carbohydrates. Lemon’s citric acid and strong antibacterial, antiviral, and immune boosting powers also help keep you healthy. And did you know that lemons contain more potassium than apples or grapes.
Something so simple, yet so beneficial. To reap the benefits of lemon water, just squeeze the juice from half of a lemon into a glass of lukewarm purified water. Drink it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, and wait 30 minutes before eating your breakfast.
I have put together a list of all the health benefits of drinking lemon water first thing in the morning. It is truly amazing how something so quick and simple can benefit your health so much!
Health Benefits of Lemon Water
1. Supports Immune System
Being rich in vitamin C, lemon helps to boost the immune system and assists the body in fighting colds and flu. Also, lemon enhances the body’s ability to absorb iron which is an important nutrient for a healthy immune system. Lemon also contains saponins, which have antimicrobial properties that help keep infections at bay.
2. Helps With Throat Infections
The antibacterial properties of lemon aid in fighting problems related to throat infections, a sore throat, and tonsillitis. In fact, people who drink a glass of warm lemon water each morning are at a lower risk of developing throat infections.
Warm lemon water can even help prevent respiratory problems such as asthma.
If you have a sore throat, drink warm lemon water and also use it to gargle throughout the day to help speed up the healing process.
3. Balances pH Levels
Lemon is one of the best alkalizing foods for the body as it contains both citric and ascorbic acid which helps maintain the pH levels. A good pH level is essential as too much acidity in the body can be inflammatory.
Drinking lemon water regularly on an empty stomach in the morning helps remove overall acidity in the body, including uric acid in the joints which is the primary cause of pain and inflammation.
4. Helps Control High Blood Pressure
Those suffering from high blood pressure can benefit immensely from this healthy drink. It helps cleanse the lymphatic system and keeps it hydrated.
The high potassium content in lemon also helps you sleep better, reduces stress, and improves your mental functioning, which in turn helps keep your blood pressure in the normal range.
5. Increases Energy
The nourishing elements like vitamins B and C, phosphorous, proteins, and carbohydrates present in lemon make it a natural energizing agent. It hydrates and oxygenates the body to keep you feeling revitalized, energized, and refreshed.
Also, as lemon contains more negative charged ions, it provides instant energy when it enters the digestive tract. Plus, the scent of lemon has mood enhancing and energizing properties.
6. Improves Digestion
Several components in lemon stimulate your liver to produce more bile needed for healthy digestion. Also, lemons assist the digestive system in flushing unwanted materials and toxins out of the body.
A daily glass of warm lemon water helps relieve symptoms of indigestion such as heartburn, belching, and bloating. It also prevents constipation and diarrhea by promoting smooth bowel functioning.
7. Aids in Weight Loss
If you are trying to lose weight, drinking a glass of warm lemon water with honey will definitely help you reach your goal. Lemon is high in pectin fiber, which helps fight hunger cravings and keeps you feel full for a longer period of time
The combination of warm water, honey, and lemon creates a more alkaline atmosphere in your stomach, which helps you lose weight faster.
8. Reduces Inflammation
If you drink warm lemon water on a regular basis, it will decrease the acidity in your body, which is where disease states occur. It removes uric acid in your joints, which is one of the main causes of inflammation.
9. Stone Relief
If kidney stones are a concern for you, drinking warm lemon water can help dissolve not only kidney stones but also gallstones, pancreatic stones, and calcium deposits as well.
10. Cleans Urinary Tract
Warm lemon water acts as a diuretic, helps cleanse the urinary tract, and encourages the production of urine. Also, this healthy drink can change the pH level of the urinary tract, in turn discouraging the proliferation of bad bacteria.
The citric acid in lemon also aids in detoxification, which is essential to keeping the urinary tract free of infections. For women who suffer from frequent urinary tract infections, this healthy drink will be a big help in keeping recurrent infections at bay.
11. Reduces Depression and Anxiety Symptoms
Lemon water has a high potassium content. Depression and anxiety are often linked to not having enough potassium in your blood.
12. Promotes Healthier Skin
Daily consumption of warm lemon water can make a huge difference in the appearance of your skin. It helps purify your blood and encourages growth of new blood cells. The high vitamin C content as well as other antioxidants in lemon helps keep free from wrinkles and blemishes.

Excellent information.
I thought the information about drinking lemon water was very informative and now I want to star drinking warm lemon water. I do have a silly question on the warm lemon water. Do you squeeze the juice from a whole lemon in a glass then add the warm water or just put a slice of lemon in a glass of warm water?
Maybe a sillier question: Why do I need to drink “warm” lemon water; won’t it warm up to 98.6F in my stomach?
Also instead of juicing the lemon it makes more sense to me to peel then slice up the lemon into small bite size pieces and add them to my water. It seems to me I’ll get more fiber out of the solid pieces than I will out of the juice alone. I use a bottle like a vitaminwater bottle filled half full of water. I add the pieces of lemon to it, shake it up, and let it sit awhile.
