Mossberg Brand Shotgun

The Mossberg 500 12 gauge tactical is a great shotgun when you are on a tight budget with a family to protect. If you opt for this gun, you get a reliable, name-brand shotgun that will perform for years to come.

Furthermore, this is a gun that is affordable and gives you everything you would expect from a home defense shotgun.

Pistol Grip and Butt Stock Feature

There are a few different things that make this tactical shotgun so appealing as a home defender. Unfortunately, some gun owners get the wrong idea when they look at a pistol grip on a shotgun, not realizing the potential it has in a defensive situation.

Some think it “looks cool” or “tactical,” while others see it as a pointless addition to a great gun. In reality, the purpose of the pistol grip is to give the shooter freedom.

When your shotgun has a pistol grip and buttstock, it allows you to retain control of your gun in the “ready” position with only one hand should you need to tend to family, open doors, or grab a slice of pizza.

This “ready” position is easier to hold with a pistol grip and even allows Mossberg's 18.5-inch barrel to be maneuvered around the hallways that much easier.

I would feel careless at this point if I didn't tell you that you should always try to defend yourself with two hands on your gun, no matter what type of gun it actually is. But, if you can't, the pistol grip helps.

Reduced Felt Recoil

Another good thing about having a pistol-grip shotgun is that it reduces the amount of felt recoil in your shoulder because the hand helps redirect it better.

Because the Mossberg 500 stock is adjustable, it won't matter if you're a giant or just a little dude (or dudette), because there is likely a position for you to be comfortable in. Just don't be like the multitude of homeowners who buy a home-defense shotgun and never run any buckshot through it to see how it performs first.

Trust me when I say you'll want to feel the recoil so you're not surprised by it.

Being that the 500 tactical is a pump-action shotgun, it holds more than one round—six, to be exact.

This is great for times when more than one bad guy is looking to harm you. Or, if you have so much sleep in your eyes that you just can't see straight, Either way, more shells = more protection.

Mossberg 500 Tactical Price

Most importantly, this Mossberg is affordable. Brand new, the MSRP for right around $600. However, you can often find a used one for a lot less than that.

Just make sure you're getting a gun that is in good working order. I actually bought my Mossberg for $200 a couple of years ago.

It works great.

I have used the Mossberg 500 tactical, outfitted with a pistol grip, 18.5″ barrel and a mounted flashlight. this setup has been my choice of close quarter weapon for a very long time both in close quarter combat in Iraq and during roadside defense as well as within buildings. I found the weapon to be very reliable even in the harshest of environments. The shells that I use now are the same ones used in the desert 000 3′ Magnum, the effect on a car at short distance was devastating and nothing takes a door down like this round. In Tight spaces with very little time to adjust this weapon will prove its self over and over again.

I’ve owned my “Mossberg 500” 12 Gage with both the 18 inch and 28 inch vent rib site since shortly after coming home from Vietnam, it was a Gift from my wife! Great shotgun and one of a small collection of weapons I have accumulated since! I am very partial to the 9mm Glock’s for personal protection, a shotgun is great if you have the room to swing it around, unlike a pistol that is readily available with a Point & Shoot as many rounds as the magazine will allow! I do use the Mossberg for Hunting, very reliable in any kind of weather! I was surprised to see it listed online, I have not seen one in many Gun Stores in quite awhile! Most Gun stores lean toward the Tactical Weapons which suits me just fine also! 🙂 Thanx for Posting this fine weapon, 1st time I have seen one nickel(?) plated (chrome/Stainless?)!!!Certainly looks menacing! I LIKE IT…..

Owned 3 mossberg 12ga over the past 20 years. Last one is a 590A with an ati tactical stock. Never had one let me down yet, just ask a few unwelcome tenants. Oops sorry all I saw was the back side.

i Have 3 shotguns stationed around the house. All 18,5 barrels. Two are in the office that I stay in most, also two Glocks, 9mm, and 40. The 3rd one is in the room where I sleep. All are loaded, ALL the time. We also have two dogs that stay in the 1st floor at night. I also make sure that I know how to use all of them safely. I use No, 8 shot because that is unlikely to go through a wall and hit my wife or dogs. Hey, its my choice!! Don’t mess with me and I’m not even in Texas…
