Tactical knives seem to be everywhere. Just about every prepper website or supply store is selling a tactical knife that they claim is the “best”.

But what makes a tactical knife a good one? What should you look for when purchasing the best tactical knife?

Like most things, a lot of it comes down to personal preference. What works for one person might not be the best choice for another. Ultimately, choosing the best tactical knife for you will depend on your own personal needs and skill set.

But there are certain criteria that every tactical knife should meet, no matter what. Just like with any other type of prepper supplies, there are bad tactical knives out there. This could mean that they are cheaply made, prone to malfunction, impractical, or poorly designed.

Well, first let me say this:  I’ve heard some people (knifemaker Companies) say the following, that there’s no difference between a “regular” knife and a “tactical knife.”  I ask them this question: Is there a difference between a “combat handgun” and a “regular” handgun?  Damn right, there is.

But unless you know what those differences are, you probably can’t tell the difference.  It has a barrel, a handle, and it shoots, just like every other gun.

However, there are differences, and to the educated or experienced, these subtleties can literally spell the difference between life and death.  There is also a difference between a “Tactical Knife” and a “regular” knife.  Let’s take a look.

    Folders are O.K. but, I like straight knifes. You can use them for a variety of needs and do not close unexpectedly.

      Totally agree michael! I’ve almost lost my fingers having one closing on me during one trip. Luckily it was freezing cold and I was wearing gloves so the cuts was not that deep.
