  1. I live in western South Dakota when we loose power I have purchased numerious OIL wick lanterns. These do provide excellent heat and light during a blackout.
P.S. my mobile home is total electric. 3 years ago I had no lanterns, just candles and almost froze to death during our 4 1/2 day blackout. using the pots is a very good idea. I didn’t think of this, now I’ll need to get to the store and pick up a few such pots and some bricks.
HMmm ….wonder if heating a couple of cinder blocks would work?

Great article. Heating a Room – is just that. In an emergency situation where you are limited in your heating abilities.. Just heat one room… Place blankest over all doors / windows / hallways for insulation. Move everything vital into that room and share that warmth.. Eat/sleep/cook in that room… Respectfully, The Break Away Homesteader.
