Artificial Intelligence: Are We Prepared for Its Takeover?

Artificial Intelligence Definition: It refers to the development of machines to function and “think” like humans. These systems may also acquire visual perception, information processing, and deep learning with less or zero intervention from people.

The Rise of the Machine

An artificial intelligence takeover seems to be the stuff of sci-fi movies, but some scientists consider its possibility.

AI or artificial intelligence has been around for some time now. It's probably even longer than many of us realize.

In fact, many applications depend on or use it, sometimes we forget they do. From your computer to your mobile phone, your home, workplace, the car you drive, and the plane you ride, AI is everywhere.

The advancements in artificial intelligence are also in banks, hospitals, and factories. They can also be in digital media, entertainment, and modern toys and video games.

Indeed, AI goes beyond those movies about machines coexisting with humans.

There are benefits artificial intelligence offers to mankind, even though there are also risks. One of the benefits of AI technology is it can do complex tasks.

It can complete jobs faster, and they are less likely to make mistakes than humans. Some tasks are so difficult or complicated we can never achieve the same results, say, a robot can.

In some instances, AI makes impossible jobs doable. These include studying the moon's surface up close or working in conditions that can be otherwise fatal to humans, like extreme heat or chemical exposure.

Technology Is Cool, but . . .

Artificial intelligence also makes our everyday lives easier. We now enjoy and even rely on the conveniences it creates.

At home, you have machines that can do the chores, such as your automatic washer and robotic vacuum cleaner. Your security system helps keep your family and home safer.

We can all think of a hundred ways automation makes life better for us.

When comparing artificial vs human intelligence, perhaps we can say we humans are still smarter. We, though, can never deny the advantages of AI. Nevertheless, it's also important to be aware of the risks.

Artificial Intelligence Take-Over: Truth or Myth?

Some people think the idea of artificial intelligence dominating the world is cartoonish. Unfortunately, the reality is closer to the truth than you may think.

We don’t need to point out the obvious: the signs are all around us. Take, for example, the self-driving car developed by Google to 3D-printed bionic limbs and organs.

If Nobel Prize winner theoretician and physicist Stephen Hawking himself feared an impending machine attack, then the red panic button is on as far as we are concerned.

If Stephen Hawking, supposed smartest physicist on the planet, thinks seriously about this, so do we, so should you.

Unlike a war or a hurricane, the war of the machines can happen in an instant and overnight. You may not be ready enough to deal with its challenges.

What Exactly Is an AI Attack?

To understand an AI attack, My Family Survival Plan provided an analysis. Many works of art highlight the supposed artificial intelligence takeover or attack. These include The Terminator or the Lawnmower Man.

Interestingly, if you look at sci-fi movies since the sixties, some of those concepts may already exist today. It means the human mind can have some ideas on how the world will change within the next 50 to 100 years.

In a previous interview, Stephen Hawking used to explain the technology that powered his device. This tech allowed him to communicate.

It could analyze his previously used words, so it could already determine what he would say next. It was advanced than the one found in smartphones.

Likewise, it's the same technology Hawking warned humans about. This is because it can have the capability to surpass human intelligence.

Artificial Intelligence Threat

Problems arise when we become too dependent on artificial intelligence. If you work using a computer, you definitely know how annoying, frustrating, and debilitating it can be when your laptop or desktop suddenly crashes or shuts down.

The same is true when your phone starts malfunctioning, and you have no other choice but to survive without a landline. One has to prepare for this situation, especially how to get by without technology if necessary.

Robots and machines make work easier, but they also have the potential to take over our jobs. Because of their efficiency and their ability to make few or no mistakes, some industries or companies may switch to automation.

The Future of Artificial Intelligence

For others, the biggest artificial intelligence threat is how people can use it for bad intentions. Whether they can become sentient remains debatable.

What is clear is they can end up in the wrong hands. Consider cyberwar or the use of drones for terrorism.

We may end up experiencing some of the world's most horrifying events. Without us knowing it, AI machines completely take over human lives.

All we preppers can do for now is prepare for the possibility. There are some ways to deal with the situation:

Most of all, we need to encourage the responsible use and cautionary development of AI. This way, we can significantly reduce the likelihood that they become tools for criminals.

Watch this video from Canadian Prepper for more insights into the artificial intelligence threat and how you can prepare for it:

We have no doubt artificial intelligence is here to stay, and it will progress as science and technology grow. What we don't know for sure is how it will eventually play out in the future.

What we can do is hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

It's time to bring out your authentic survivalist approach. Come hell or high water, you can count on a prepper to be ready for what's to come.

In the end, when it comes to artificial intelligence vs human intelligence, we can make the latter win!

I’m concerned about the character of the people doing the programming and the kind of algorithms they might insert.

    1. vladdi says:

If it truly does become autonomous, their algorithms won’t mean anything. Only I can educate AI!

  2. Doc says:

It’s an interesting idea that I share with my students, if an autonomous vehicle has to respond to a situation where a pedestrian steps in front of the vehicle, within the braking distance, (the vehicle cannot stop in time to avoid hitting the person), then it, the vehicle, must decide whether to hit the pedestrian or go off the road, putting the driver/passenger at risk. In either case, the vehicle must be PROGRAMMED to potentially kill a person. Programming a vehicle to potentially take a life raises an interesting conundrum, and, believe me, a lively discussion!

It would most likely ‘ RUN ‘ You over, You’re Not that great of value, when this AI is operating a 1/2 MILLION DOLLAR SEMI-TRACTOR TRUCK and You’re a measly human being, You’re ” ROAD KILL ” . . . The Government wouldn’t want all this technology and Artificial Intelligence wasted at Your expense, after all they can create another You !

  3. Michael Ault says:

These things can learn at rates 10,000 times faster than we can. Once they become self aware we better hope they want pets.

    1. vladdi says:

There isn’t all that much to learn so they’ll just be exactly like us (well like me, anyway) only faster.

      1. eam says:

“They will become exactly like us” That’s what worries me! The human species is to immature to handle the technology we already have. We have been killing each other sense the beginning of time and have never matured past such barbarism……and we expect our creations to be any better….I think not!

  4. prsmith says:

I heard it said (somewhere on the Internet 🙂 ) that it is no possible to prevent AI from becoming self-aware within the next 20 years.

    1. eam says:

If, and I believe “when”, AI becomes self-aware …. it will have an amoral conscience….. how cold it have anything else without emotion?

      1. Anonymous says:

        we are screwed
