The sooner kids learn the proper way to handle a gun, the sooner kids will understand how to be safe around a gun. I’m pretty sure most of you have decided to watch the video first before even reading this article. I don’t blame you; it’s really worth watching. In fact, I would have done the same thing myself.

If you’ve been working with guns, whether for work or hobby, then the video wouldn’t even surprise you. Your children may already have learned some of the skills shown, or how to handle the shotgun or pistol.

The point here is that there is nothing wrong with kids who are good at shooting. And yes, we all know the risks of exposing your children to the use of a weapon of war. A few months back, a child killed the gun instructor by accident. The circumstances revolving around that incident are not reason enough to start a debate or a blame game.

In order to avoid fatal accidents like that, some skills need to be mastered by children before they are given any type of gun, the first of which would be gun safety. You can’t teach a child to shoot right away. They have to learn how to handle a firearm properly and safely. If you have to teach them over and over, then by all means do it. Remember, a gun is a deadly weapon and the earlier a child becomes aware of this, the better off they will be as they grow old around guns.

Kids and guns, an absolutely dangerous combination, you might say. Put proper marksmanship training between them and life becomes much easier, let alone safer.
