The YHM Kr7 carbine features exceptional handguards and was eventually adopted by the AR industry. This gas-operated tactical rifle is one of the best values for your money.

YHM KR7 Tactical Rifle

I must admit, I was surprised the first time I had the chance to use the YHM KR7. I had the luxury of testing a wide range of assault rifles, way more expensive than this YHM. But performance-wise, it's just about the same.

Certain features can make the difference, yet this baby is just as good. And the most notable thing about this rifle is its KR7 Keymod Handguard which is positioned perfectly with the upper receiver. It's a game changer on how tactical rifles are built. Arguably one of the most lightweight handguards to date.

This rifle has great balance, and I'm very satisfied with how comfortable it rests on my arms at shooting position. The recoil will decrease some of the ease as you take your shot.

Though it still has a considerably lighter feel compared to some firearms I tested in the range with the same caliber. It's accurate until the last ammo, depending on the shooter's consistency.

Pros and Cons

It's a fine rifle built for tactical use, but what makes it special is the KR7 Keymod Handguard which is one of the best innovations in the AR industry. It's really lightweight and provides an easy way to mount accessories on the rifle. There's just one small detail I didn't like when I tested the firearm.

I had a few misfires with this gun, unlike other YHM rifles I tested. But I'm not really certain about what caused the issue whether it's just bad ammo, or if it's really a known issue with this rifle model.

Overall Verdict and Price

At a price range of $815 – $1300, the YHM KR7 tactical rifle is a great value for your dollar. It doesn't really have the best reputation for law enforcement use, but I believe this gun is a viable weapon for home defense. Besides, it's cool to have a rifle at home with all kinds of accessories mounted on the handguard.

I'd like to have more time to test this rifle from YHM preferably two KR7s. It's an effective way to isolate the issue I had before with this gun model. I did not want to get the impression of this rifle not being reliable enough, particularly for tactical use.
