Hydration Backpack Review | The Geigerrig Water Bladder

Hydration Backpack

The Geigerrig is a hydration backpack with some pretty unique features that set it apart from the rest of its class.

First of all, its “engine” (aka the hydration bladder) has an attached, hand operated valve which allows you to  pressurizes the pack, allowing the water to spray from the bladder.

This is a huge benefit that keeps you from having to suck on a nasty bite valve.  This gives you a huge benefit that no other hydration pack offers!

You can share your water with others , including your pets (fido needs water too!), without compromising your personal sanitation.

It also allows you the added benefit of being able to spray off any wounds and even wash your hands when out in the wild.

Another innovation that Geigerrig  offers that you won't find with your standard , off the rack hydration backpack, is the ability to clean the bladder WITHOUT any nasty chemicals …or that weird tool that looks like something I scrub my toilets with!

It's 100% dishwasher safe. You simply remove the bladder from the hydation backpack and and toss it in the top rack.

Also, you can use this pack as a filtration system, allowing you to use any water as drinking water. And lastly, this pack's durability puts other hydration systems to shame.

Durability

A lot of survival products make big claims about their ruggedness. The Geigerrig is no different, but they let you judge for yourself by providing videos of the durability tests they perform on the pack.

They turn the bladder into a dry ice bomb, run the pack over with a SWAT vehicle, and throw it out of a truck going 100 mph. Watch to see how it does:

The pack gets thrown from a moving vehicle not once, but TWICE!

Usage

So what about this product sets it apart from other hydration backpacks? We mentioned that it is pressurized and can spray from the valve, but what else can you do with this pack that you can't do with others?

We think this hydration pack is a great tool for any prepper, survivalist, biker, hiker, camper, or anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors.

There are a few features we love about this product that we think you will appreciate as well.

Dishwasher Safe

You just flip the bladder inside out and throw it in the dishwasher. This makes it easy to keep your hydration pack clean and your water healthy. Especially if you're using the optional filter. More on that later.

Sprayable

The pressurized pack allows you to drink from this hydration backpack in a completely new way. The spray feature isn't just convenient for drinking, however, as it has many practical applications.

You can easily and safely clean wounds with your Gergerrig. Obviously, it won't sanitize the wound, but a little running water over a dirty cut can really help out when you're in a pinch.

Also, if you happen into some dirt or mud that you need to clean off, the Geigerrig will have your back. Take your Geigerrig with you off the beaten path and see for yourself what all it can do.

Filtration

You can easily attach the optional filter to your Geigerrig, allowing you to turn any water into safe hydration. Streams, rivers, creeks, lakes all become sources of drinking water once you have the Gerigerrig.

Share Your Water

You can spray water from your pack to share with others.Whether your friends or strangers, you'll never have to fear sharing the dirty lid of a water bottle.

The following video shows a dog drinking straight from the stream of water from the Geigerrig. Keep your best friend hydrated without carrying around a water bowl!

Functionality

You've seen what it does, but now you want to know how it does it? We've shown you how durable and useful the Geigerrig is, so now take a look inside of this hydration backpack.

This looks like a good system. The only issue I might have with it, much the same as others with an included filter system, is that there should be an intake to fill the system with water through the filter. The way the system stands, you contaminate your bladder with questionable water when you fill it.

That is why GEIGERRIG systems are reversible and dishwasher safe. 1) In the field, you can simply put a bit of listerine int he reservoir, shake it up, spray the solution through the tubing and let it try by turning it inside out. The dry environment and t-spoon of listerine doo the trick. 2) At home, just turn it inside out and put it in the top shelf of the dishwasher for cleaning.

Yeah,, I know it’s a water container, thus important… but $160 for a canteen? No.
And if I want to squirt water, I can squeeze the bag or blow into it to pressurize it just fine.
    It doesn’t have to survive a truck – I won’t.
    It doesn’t have to survive 100 mph – I won’t.
Using the bag to hold contaminated water is stupid at best.
I can got o Wally world and buy these bags for $20 all day long… I have yet to see $150 justified.

    1. Robert says:

The $150.00 isn’t for the reservoir. The Reservoir is only $48.00. The $150.00 includes the backpack, the reservoir, filter, etc. You can get a reservoir for only $48.00 and load it into any pack.
